1 On behalf of the Committee of the Canberra Racing Club it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes and Canberra Cup race meeting for 2018. Today’s prize money of $920,000 is a record for the Club and includes the $300,000 Group 3 John McGrath Auto Group and the $200,000 Canberra Cup. An addition to today’s program is the $40,000 TAB Federal – Riharna Thomson Bracelet Maiden Handicap, a race for which only Canberra and NSW Country trained horses are eligible. In addition there is a bonus of $10,000 on this race split on a 60%, 30% and 10% percentage basis between the first three Canberra horses across the line. The winning jockey will be presented with the Riharna Thomson Memorial Bracelet. Sponsors help create a carnival atmosphere and introduce people to the racing experience particularly on feature race days such as today. You may use your admission ticket for a free ride on connecting Action Bus Routes. A taxi rank managed by commissionaires is also outside the front entrance in the bus bay area. Please don’t drink and drive. To ensure driver safety Police Breathalyzer units will be operating in the area.
